The Panda Catfish is a cute, friendly fish. It lives in the upper Amazon in the Ucayali River basin in Peru. It can live in both clear and muddy waters of streams and tributaries, often swimming on sandy bottoms. In this region, the rivers are fed by meltwater flowing from the snow-capped Andes, so the Panda Corydoras are accustomed to fast currents and fairly low temperatures (about 19 ° C).

The catfish has an attractive pattern on its body with a combination of dark and light stripes, reminiscent of the coloring of the large Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), which gave the fish its name. This catfish is the best choice for a beginner, it is peaceful, hardy and easy to keep and breed. Corydoras panda was very expensive and in great demand when it first appeared in the late 1970s. This popularity has remained unchanged to this day, but it has become much more accessible. Panda catfish are very peaceful and friendly fish, so they are suitable for many aquarium communities. Although they can eat eggs or fry, aggression towards other species is almost never observed. Intraspecific hostility is also not typical. They get along well with Characins, Cyprinidae, Labyrinth fish, Rainbow fish, dwarf cichlids and other peaceful fish. Do not keep them with very large or aggressive fish. In nature, the fish are found in large schools, so it is best to keep them in an aquarium in groups of 5-6 individuals - this way they will be more active and will feel much more confident.
