Microrasbora galaxy (Danio margaritatus) - nanofish, with a body size of up to 3 cm, with a very unusual bright color - many oval-shaped spots. Its original name translates as "decorated with pearls".
This species was discovered quite recently, but very quickly became one of the most popular fish, thanks to its bright color. Such exotic coloring was initially considered a prank from Photoshop masters.
Habitat in nature - small lakes and dams, with dense thickets of plants. Water level - about 30 cm deep.
Life expectancy - up to 2 years.
Contents
The fish is ideal for keeping in aquariums with dense vegetation, the so-called grass tanks. In 20-liter aquariums, you can safely keep a school of 20-25 fish. In an overgrown grass tank, with a filter - at least 1 liter of water is needed for 1 fish. When kept in groups of less than 8-10, the fish often behave timidly and prefer to hide in dense thickets. In large aquariums, schools of several hundred such fish look very beautiful.
They prefer to stay in the middle layers of water - this should be taken into account when decorating the aquarium and selecting neighbors
They feel uncomfortable in brightly lit aquariums with a small number of plants, they become timid and nervous. Diffused light, dimmed by plants floating on the surface of the water, is recommended.
They prefer water of low hardness, and they are sensitive to increased levels of nitrogen compounds in the water. Weekly water changes of 25-30% are needed - this will reduce the content of ammonia and nitrates without causing stress to the fish
Water temperature - 20-25 degrees.
Water from the tap - sometimes it is completely unsuitable for fish, and in other places it can be simply dangerous. Chlorine and heavy metals can kill your fish or weaken their immune system. To quickly prepare fresh water for aquarium water changes, use one of the water treatment products. Compatibility
Rasboras tend to stay in schools, but if the aquarium is small, fights between males for dominance may occur. But more often, these fish become victims of more aggressive neighbors.
They live well with most peaceful fish, ideally small in size: neons, cherry barbs, endler's guppies, cardinals, danios. Of catfish - corydoras (pygmies, habrosuses), acanthophthalmus, otocinclus, ancistrus.
Will not survive with: goldfish, cichlids, barbs.
Differences between female and male
Males are smaller, with a lean belly, brighter in color. Black and red stripes stand out on the fins. Females are paler in color, the stripes on the fins are weakly expressed. They are slightly larger than males, with a full rounded abdomen.
Nutrition
The fish are omnivorous. In nature, they feed on small insects, algae, zooplankton. If you provide her with a varied diet in an aquarium (live food, frozen, dry) - this will have a beneficial effect on her health and the brightness of her color.
In an aquarium, the fish eat high-quality dry food very well. But it should be taken into account that the fish have a miniature mouth, and the size of the food should correspond.
