Microrasbora kubotai inhabits small rivers flowing in the provinces of Ranong and Phang Nga located on the northwestern slope of the Thai peninsula, the Ataran River basin. These fish were discovered relatively recently and are still quite rare in aquarists' collections.
Adults reach about 2 cm in length. The color is silvery with a green tint. The fins are translucent. Sexual dimorphism is weakly expressed. Sexually mature females have a more rounded abdomen and are larger in size than males. Males are slender, their coloring is more contrasting.
Given their small size, Microrasbora kubotai is an ideal candidate for keeping in a nano aquarium. In nature, these fish swim in schools of up to 50 individuals, so it is recommended to keep them in an aquarium in a small school of 10-15 fish. Keeping fish in a school will make them less timid, and males will constantly compete with each other for the attention of females, demonstrating more saturated coloring. The minimum volume of the aquarium should be 15 liters.
